Kids Know It is a great educational site…but not educational in the way that  kids will roll their eyes and whine when you suggest they go there.

The founder of the Kids Know It network is Hiram Bertoch, who is quoted as saying, “Learning was mean to be both fun and free.  Not boring, and definitely not expensive.”

On the landing page, it begins by asking the child, “What would you like to learn about?”  It gets major points from me for that; I mean, who EVER asks kids what they WANT to learn about?  Kids have interests every bit as diverse as adults do.  Then, they have several interesting choices of things to learn about:  Animals, Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Dinosaurs, Geography, Geology, History, Human Biology, Math, Memory, and Spelling.

Each one of these general areas has games, activities, worksheets, and free online classes kids can participate in.

Also on the landing page are trivia facts on three different topics.  There’s a quotation (the one up when I visisted was “People who wrestle with their consciences usually go for two falls out of three.”).  This history fact was, “Seven of the eight US Presidents who have died in office–either through illness or assassination–were elected at precisely 20-year intervals.”  Then you could click and animal card (koalas today!), or a dinosaur card (the maiasaura).

There are also hundreds of educational songs, which you can find by topic and which are free to play and learn, as well as educational movies, also free.

Kids Know It also has a tutoring service where you or your child can network with tutors in real time via an eletronic whiteboard, to get help with any subject they are struggling with.

Sites like KidsKnowIt.com are a great equalizer.  You don’t have to have a lot of money to get on this site and spend some time learning, playing, and having a great time.
