Kids Can Press is pleased to announce the launch of CitizenKid, a collection of books that explains complex global issues and inspires young readers to become better global citizens. The collection includes award-winning books about biodiversity, microloans, global community, and water conservation, and will feature two new titles to be published this fall: If America Were a Village, by David J. Smith, and How to Build Your Own Country, by Valerie Wyatt.

The collection, for readers ages 8-12, also includes the Kids Can Press books If the World Were a Village, Tree of Life, One Well, Ryan and Jimmy, and One Hen.

Kids Can Press is also offering learning resource materials for teachers for every book in the CitizenKid collection, available at www.kidscanpress.com, to support schools’ growing focus on global issues curriculum.

“The titles in the CitizenKid series are well-written, beautifully illustrated books from award-winning creators and are unique in that they each express complex concepts in an accessible way that both educates and inspires,” said Karen Boersma, Publisher, Kids Can Press. “In these challenging times, books that help kids make sense of the world and feel empowered to make it better are more important than ever.”

“We’re seeing a growing interest among children and their parents, as well as in classrooms, in gaining a greater understanding of world issues and a desire to help solve shared problems,” said Lisa Lyons, President, Kids Can Press. “Kids Can Press has always been a leader in publishing books that promote a world view. CitizenKid takes this one step further by offering children a series of distinctive guides that help them understand the problems that face our planet today and explore ways to make the world a better place and create a better future.”

Kids Can Press has an award-wining list of more than 500 picture books, non-fiction, and fiction titles for toddlers to young adults, including Franklin the Turtle, which has sold more than 60 million books in more than 30 languages around the world.
