Parents are furious with Mattel (again, or as usual- depending on your views) over the newer line of Barbies. They are saying that the line (the "So In Style “ line) does not represent the average African American girl. While many are saying the move screams racism, others are saying it’s just business as usual at Mattel.
Sound familiar? It should, Mattel is no stranger to controversy over Barbie, in fact not much else seems to trigger as many reaction’s as the company’s doll.
Barbie has faced these accusations for a very long time now, even with the redesign a few years ago (decreasing the bust size and slightly increasing the waist size). She’s just not realistic, and it’s doubtful that that the doll ever will be.
Yet both the controversy and the doll remain. It doesn’t seem as if either side will be changing any time soon either.
What are your views, should Mattel finally change the doll to heftier proportions, or should people just ‘get over it’?
