A child advocacy group is seeking to get The Who guitarist banned from both performing at the Superbowl and from entering the US, on “moral turpitude” grounds.  The reason stems from an arrest in 2003 for accessing child pornography.

The Who are presently slated to perform during half time, and it’s an event that carries (normally) quite a high regard.

Child AbuseWatch is lobbying the National Football League to drop the guitarist with The Who from the Super Bowl’s half-time show.

Protect our Children has asked immigration authorities to stop him from entering the US on the grounds of his “moral turpitude”.

They said that the decision to hire Townshend showed a “blatant disregard” for American family values and was “a slap in the face to victims of child sexual abuse”. They warned the NFL that it risked a “breathtakingly ugly” public backlash.

It’s easy to understand where the group is coming from, especially with the quote above.  While Townsend is famous, that also doesn’t give him a ‘free pass’ so to speak.

Townsend confessed and faced punishment over the accusation of accessing child pornography online.  He was listed in the National Sex Offender Database, and ‘cautioned by the police’.
