For those parents who feed their children formula, there isn’t any need to tell them how much it costs. It is one of the most expensive baby products you can buy (at least, that parents would need to buy a lot).
To try and save some money, many parents lean towards the in store brands, who claim that the only difference is the price. Nutritionally it is the same thing as the super-expensive brands.
The lawsuit between Mead Johnson and PBM, (the makers of the store brand formulas) over these same claims. They were arguing over what was claimed to be ‘false advertising’ by the big brands claiming that the store brand products were not only less expensive, but had less nutrients as well.
Mead Johnson lost the lawsuit, with the courts agreeing with PBM about the price indeed being the only difference.
“This decision by a jury of the people confirms that Mead Johnson’s ads have been false in suggesting that there is a nutritional difference between our store-brand formula products and their products, when in fact the only major difference is price,” said PBM CEO Paul B. Manning. “Despite Mead Johnson’s scare tactics, parents are assured that PBM’s formula products are as high quality and nutritious as Mead Johnson’s.”

Typically many store brands are manufactured by the same companies that make the brand named goods. While in this case that wasn’t the situation. This case does seem to show that many of the store-brands are just as good as the big names. It seems that usually, consumers are simply paying for the packaging.
Many consumers of late have been switching over permanently to the cheaper goods, especially with the economic climate being what it is.
