One reason why cartoons and animated characters grab your child’s attention is easy to understand: Their colors are dazzling. Al Baruch a former disney animator said “At Disney, we drew cartoons with flat, bright colors, the same ones kids see when they use crayons. They’re easy for children to relate to.” Naturally, kids are drawn to these creative characters. But what if these animated cartoons promote violence? Is it still good for our little ones?
During my class playtime, I heard my students talking about their favorite cartoons, I was thrilled that they’re having a nice conversation, not until I heard about killing people by using guns. I know I wasn’t over reacting, but we all know that guns promote violence, and this is not good for our children. Here’s what to do:
- Check what your child is watching. Not all cartoons are good for him because some shows a lot of violence. Remember that it’s possible that he imitates this violent acts because he’s a kid. Explain to him why this is not good.
- Check the internet. You can find list of cartoons that has no violence. You can purchase them online or you can check the timeslot so that you canmake a schedule of his TV time.
- Watch as a family. After the show, the family can talk about the lesson they got from the show. If there were any violent scene, you can easily tell him the right things to do.
Parents, you have a big part on this. Let’s promote a good character to our children.
