If you or someone else in your home uses Facebook or just surfing the internet you may be putting information out there that can come back to haunt you.

This is the first generation whose lives are basically the first to live out their lives in a front of a virtual audience.  It’s also the generation to find that living in front of an audience can pose backlash and watching what you say is more important than ever before.

Kids should know that no matter what or when they put out there, it will stay on the internet forever.  Things don’t just go away on the internet, and often times people find something they posted years ago may cause issues for them finding work, or something else.

Taking care (and teaching kids to take care) of what you put online is one of the best lessons to learn.  While it may be tempting to share a funny image, or story think about how it would seem two, five, and ten years down the line.  If a boss, or someone else stumbles upon it in a search.

The best way to avoid potential pitfalls is to not post anything questionable in the first place.  Unfortunately, even if one is vigilant, at times our friends may post up some less than flattering things.  Checking privacy settings, and untagging your images may help.  Be sure to tech kids early about online safety and avoiding problems when using the internet.
