My four year old niece’s teeth is starting to have cavities in them because of her milk. It’s common with babies and toddlers. Some children even have their teeth chipping as young as two years old. So, her mom brought her to the dentist where a lady curiously asked why they were there when the kid is still so young.

At what point do you actually bring your child for his or her first dentist visit?

The thing is, most dentist will tell you that the earlier it is, the better for the child. You don’t have to bring them to the dentist if they are complaining of an aching teeth. But bring them early can help them get acquainted with the idea that there’s a doctor who can look after their teeth.

Most kids are usually afraid of going to the dentist, but if you make her first visit a mildly pleasant one, she will most likely not develop this phobia.

In fact, the American Dental Association recommends bringing baby as soon as her first teeth erupts. You can read more about baby’s teeth in this link from ADA.

My niece’s first dentist visit was actually pretty nice as she was able to sit in the dentist chair and have the doctor examine her. She was relaxed and quite curious as well and the dentist taught her, in terms she can understand, how to properly care for her teeth. My son had a similar experience and true enough, these kids don’t avoid dentist visits we schedule for them yearly.

Many households consider pets as part of the family with some pets creating a special bond with the children. When this pet dies, it’s understandably devastating for the kids. It may raise a lot of questions that sometimes parents aren’t able to properly handle when the kids mourn the lost of their furry best friend. Here are some tips by experts on what to do when your child’s favorite pet dies:

Honesty is always the best policy. Telling the child stories and euphemistic descriptions of what happened to the dog will only confuse them. However, take notice of how the child reacts and consider his or her level of understanding. The Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement says that the ages between 7 and 9 is most crucial since this is the age kids tend to ask more questions and wonder about their own mortality. The death can also trigger worries that other loved-ones may die and it’s best to reassure the child that this isn’t always the case with people.

Let the child grieve in his or her own way. But it may be helpful to also talk to the child and let them understand what this sadness is. To fully achieve closure, it’s also good to hold a simple memorial service which can be done creatively. By having the child participate in marking the gravesite, it helps him handle the loss and framing his thoughts correctly.

Losing somebody they love is difficult for children but if done right, they can emerge in this better and stronger and more positive.

One of the things that a parent has to love would be that of kid shoes. Rarely would you see kids shoes last long though. At such a fresh age, kids are expected to grow out of them and apparently the reason why some kids shoes end up being kept for remembrances without being worn out.

However, the practical parent thinks in advance. Normally, kids shoes are bought at a larger size, forecasting that they will be used for a longer span. Especially now that parents have to be wiser when it comes to finances and spending, the need to see a child grow out of toddler shoes is a great way to save some bucks in the developmental and growth stages of young tykes.

But for some, the frequent purchase of kids shoes would not matter. For one, they don’t cost that much unless you go for the branded ones that are normally reserved for the rich and abled. Especially during special occasions such as birthdays and weddings, some parents tend to overdo it, wanting the best for their child where some footwear will only be used on certain occasions which on the average can be used at most for two years.

Toddler shoes normally come in various variants. They are separated by color, design and of course brand. Of the three, color and design normally take up the preference of parents since they consider the kids interest. There will be cases when some kids would not like to wear shoes for some reason such as that of preferring another design or favorite shoe over a new one. These are common cases especially for the toddlers which a parent cannot really force. But there are some who do that and eventually it ends up becoming a trauma for the child and making them hate it even more.

As for preferred daily shoes, it is a toss-up between everyday sandals and that of rubber shoes. Design is important as well and normally parents pick out cartoon-themed shoes for a child to wear. This is done since most of the time, it takes the child’s interest to love their shoes, something catchy like a cartoon character or an appealing color that normally gets their attention.
