Kids love Halloween, that is a given. All those candy treats to get for free — it’s going to be a field day. Some parents, however, are alarmed at the number of candies these kids get to eat and take home.
There was a time when one of my nephews ended with an upset stomach from eating all of the candies he got at once. And imagine the effect of these candies on a child’s teeth.
In our household, Halloween candy treats are kept and properly divided when it’s time to eat. I don’t normally let the children indulge, even if that takes away the fun of the season. Since, at the end of the day, too much candy is still bad.
Daily Beast has rounded up the fattiest Halloween candies. Of the treats, Twix, which is a common favorite, is the highest with 286 calories, 10.8 grams of saturated fat, 37 grams of carbohydrates, and 27.5 grams of sugar. These other bars are also fatty and contain so many saturated fats and calories:
- Milky Way (264 calories, 7.0g saturated fat, 34.6g carbs)
- Baby Ruth (275 calories, 7.3g saturated fat, 38.9g carbs)
- 3 Musketeers (262 calories, 5.2g saturated fat, 46.7g carbs)
- Mounds (258 calories, 11g saturated fat, 31.1g carbs)
So think about what you have to serve the children when they do their Trick or Treating this coming Halloween. Instead of giving away these candies, you can probably give healthier options.
