It’s well-known that the option to post photos online is the reason why Facebook is still the leading social networking site, especially with teens and tweens. According to statistics more than 200 million photos are uploaded on the site each day. And while your teen may be somewhat cautious of the photos they post and tag online—any incriminating or suggestive photos can be found by college admission officers, employers and predators— the social networking site may just become even more of a danger zone due to its new face recognition software.

The software, which digitally scans the faces of uploaded photos and uses facial recognition technology to identify a user’s “friends,” is technically designed to simplify the tagging process—it can become somewhat of a hassle to individually tag photos with large groups of people. But the software is stirring much controversy, especially because the technology enables a lot of “unwanted” tagged photos to pop up on friends’ Facebook walls and increases the chances of having incriminating photos permanently available online —not only does Facebook own the rights of all photos posted on the Web site, but once a photo is uploaded into cyberspace it is permanently there no matter if you delete them from the original source.  Not to mention that the software has its issues; it’s only designed to suggest tags that it “thinks” matches a user’s friend’s face. It can accidently suggest a wrong person and there can be photos floating around in cyberspace that are misrepresenting who the person is.

Fortunately there are some ways that your teens can try to safeguard their reputation and protect photos from getting into the wrong hands (or from being seen by the wrong set of eyes). The first is to disable the face recognition software called “Tag Suggestions.” It’s important to note that disabling this feature will not prevent your teen’s friends from tagging them; it will only remove the automatic tag suggestion which will hopefully make your teen’s friends think twice before tagging an inappropriate photo.  With that said, to disable the feature follow these directions:

1. Log-in and go to the home Facebook page.

2.  Go to “Account” located on the top far right of the home page.

3. Go to “Privacy Setting.”

4. Go to “Customize Setting.”

5. Scroll down to the section that reads “Things Other Share” and click on “Edit Settings” next to “Suggest Photos of Me to Friends”

6. Click “Disable”

7. Click “Ok”

Other ways your teen can prevent unwanted tagged photos can include deleting (or blocking) friends that have no scruples when it comes to tagging unflattering or incriminating photos; or at least catching tagged photos early on and removing them. To do this, your teen should definitely request to have immediate notifications to be sent to his or her phone or via email. To do this, go to Account>Account Settings> Notifications > Scroll to “Photos” Section> Check either SMS or Email under the “Tags You in a Photo” section.  If your teen uses the Facebook app on their cellphone, they can also change the notification settings to refresh every 30 minutes.

Additional note: Always remind teens to never befriend strangers on Facebook and to always protect photo albums by using the strongest “Friends Only” privacy setting.

Screen shot 2011-06-11 at 6.44.14 AMAs a parent traveling with young kids all by yourself, it’s easy to think that it will be very hard to get through. It’s an ordeal that some single parents do not delve into, if it can be avoided. But lots of single parents travel with their kids and still be able to enjoy it.

Here are a few suggestions on what to do:

1. By-pass lines. It is really a pain to watch singe parents with their kids in tow, waiting in long lines. The children will easily get bored and would probably wander off. To avoid all of this, checking luggages can now be done conveniently online. It’s truly hassle free and all you have to do is login to the airlines site and check in 24 hours before your flight.

2. Board the plane earlier. Airlines actually make parents traveling with children as priority. Boarding earlier will have you and your child plenty of time to get comfortable in your seat as the rest of the passengers still find theirs.

3. Bring a stroller, this way, you can strap your kid as you go through all the securities and check you have to do and not worry about him getting lost. Strollers are not counted as luggage.

4. Make sure that your ride is there when you get to your destination. If someone is picking you up, like a family member, you can go ahead and hand over your child with them, if your child is comfortable enough, as you sort through the luggage compartment. Or if you have enlisted airport pick up, be sure that the driver is already there and waiting for you.

In order for you and the whole family to reach your workplace and school on time, you must avoid the hassle of morning rush in your daily routine. Here are some helpful ways on how to do it: use a timer; cling on to your morning routine; refer to the weather forecast a night before; pack up things ahead; prepare meals early; and, work as a team.

Work your way through morning routines with ease and grace. Morning rush can be avoided if you learn to create and follow certain guidelines. It is a must that every member of your home should be on time for work and for school. Oftentimes, when everything is going crazy while preparing for yourself and the whole family, you tend to be late in arriving to your workplace or the school. These are things you need to do something about. Below are ways of speeding up things to make your preparation and morning routines work well.

Use a timer

If you have a kid who happens to spend so much time in doing one single thing, then it’s time to create a better way of making your slowpoke catch up with your pace. Kids have this innate love for games and challenging him to beat the timer, will surely speed him up.

Cling on to your morning routine

Consistency in the morning routines is a must too. Should your child wants to dress up before taking breakfast, then let him do so daily and consistently. Breaking the usual order of morning activities can waste a lot of time. When your child follows the same pattern of routine, it would become easier on your part too since it will limit the number of times that you should give him a reminder of what’s next.

Refer to the weather forecast a night before

Check on the weather forecast ahead so you can prepare necessary wardrobe for that particular weather. This will give you ample time to prepare the boots, jackets, umbrellas, and coats. Whichever is appropriate for the next day.

Pack up things ahead

Assign a specific spot where kids can place their school bags, shoes, and other school stuff in preparation for the next day. Homework, projects, and other things needed for school the following day should be all set and placed in the school bags ahead. This will prevent you and your kids of spending so much time in the morning gathering all these items.

Prepare meals early

Meals and snacks that can be prepared ahead should be ready the night before. Sandwiches can be prepared ahead. Canned or bottled juices can be placed in lunch bags the night before too.

Work as a team

Being on time for work and school should be emphasized as a goal for the whole family. This will encourage everyone to exercise punctuality as a team.

It is also helpful to refer to a time management e-book to learn more techniques in creating a relaxed atmosphere while preparing everyone in your home for the office or for school.
