The sound oasis sleep bear, sleep sheep plush sound machine, SleepMate 980A, and sleep sheep on the go are some good selections of machines for children.

When couples finally become parents, one of the most common challenges that they would face is putting their baby to sleep and the hard part is to maintain baby’s deep slumber for the rest of the night. Fortunately, parents wouldn’t have to worry about this dilemma because what they only need is a sound machine. These are simple inventions that produce particular “white” sounds or background noises like a heartbeat or a gentle flowing water. These sounds promote and maintain comfort and enable babies to sleep more soundly. Examples of the machine are listed below.

Sound oasis sleep bear

Babies and young kids would love this battery-operated sound machine because it is soft and cuddly in a form of a teddy bear. It has straps so that you can attach it to your baby’s stroller or crib during sleeping time. Its sound box can actually produce 6 comforting sounds like heart beat, lullaby, womb sound, and mores. It also has a timer setting which will enable to decide how many minutes of the sound will continuously play to ensure that your baby can fall into deeper sleep. It also has a volume control to adjust the sounds. What’s good about this product is that its sound box can be removed from the body so that you can be able to clean and wash the teddy bear.

Sleep sheep plush sound machine

This sound machine is more or less similar to the sound oasis sleep bear though it is in the form of a cute and cuddly sleeping sheep. Is has Velcro straps for easy attaching to cribs, walkers or bed posts. It also has 2 time settings or a sleep timer and volume control as well. Unlike the sleep bear that produces 6 white sounds, the sleep sheep plush only produces 4 soothing sounds like mother’s heartbeat, rain, ocean waves, and whale songs.

SleepMate 980A

The SleepMate 980A is a popular sound machine made by Marpac, a well-known white noise machine creator. This machine has a simple yet cool design, in oval form with a white casing. It is highly durable and lightweight. It produces excellent sound quality of smooth rushing air which refines disturbing environmental noise such as snoring, vehicle sounds, conversations, and noises from appliances. This machine is indeed very effective in calming babies and can also be used in the office or in adult bedrooms.

Sleep sheep on the go

This white noise machine is the compact version of the sleep sheep. With the same characteristics of the sleep sheep though only 8 inches tall, it is very convenient and can fit to almost any kind of bag. It produces 4 nature sounds like gentle stream, spring showers, ocean waves, and whale songs.

A sound machine is a very good investment that every mother should have. It is not only advantageous to the parents but it also guarantees a good night sleep to your child.

Picture from Daylife.com

This news story isn’t exactly new, but I still found it very interesting.  It’s about a dad, Isaac Daniel, who had a bad scare a couple of years ago–he received a call while at a conference that his son had gone missing.  Every parent’s worst nightmare.  He left his conference, jumped on a plane, and flew back home, only to find that his son was safe, and that his “missingness” was only due to a miscommunication.

But just because the danger is past doesn’t mean the fear has really gone away. So Daniel began working on a product, a GPS tracking chip that can be embedded into shoes.  The way I understand it, the chip remains dormant unless the parent calls into the monitoring company to activate satellite tracking.  Then the chip is activated and the shoe-wearer can be quickly located.

These are pretty pricey–adult shoes go for $300-$325, and then there’s the $19.95 a month for the monitoring company.  And you can’t just use them to check whether your teens lied about where they would be, because activating the chip automatically involves notifying authorities.

And I’m not sure that tracking kids every minute of every day is necessarily a good thing…at least I say that while I know exactly where my kids are (home sick with an ear infection, Girl Scout meeting, bus home from middle school).  But if one of my kids went missing, I’d be on that plane as fast as Isaac Daniel was.   If I had the resources of a large business on my side, I’d use them to keep kids safe in a heartbeat.

So, the thought of all of us having tracking chips in our shoes is pretty creepy, but the thought of our kids being safe…that’s pretty appealing.
