In order to curb the alarming rate at which kids are growing up obese, experts have suggested that young children ought to be encouraged to walk and that parents should learn to ditch using the stroller.

This is what experts in the UK have suggested, according to an article published in the Daily Mail.

According to the report, health officials are worried about the rise of obesity cases with kids. The government and it’s National Health Service agency, in fact, have been spending about $6.7Million a year, just for this.

“By taking steps such as encouraging their children to walk to school, to eat healthily or stop using buggies on short trips at the age of three, they can help ensure their children lead an active life,” this is according to a council cabinet member.

“We have to acknowledge that childhood obesity is a growing problem and while local authorities have a part to play it is ultimately the responsibility of parents and carers to tackle this issue. I get very frustrated when I see children as old as five in a buggy. We should start to stop using the buggy as much as we can from three.”

One in every five children in London is said to be obese. The figures are a lot worse in United States, where childhood obesity is also a big problem.

Young kids, who are supposed to be enjoying themselves, are besieged with diseases like diabetes or heart problems.

As parents, do you think strollers must be ditched?

For young kids, hitting is a way of expressing emotions. When they don’t get what they want, it’s a natural reaction for them to hit their playmate. Toddlers usually respond physically when they feel frustrated. And this can be minimized if parents are able to handle this properly.

When you see your child doing this, gently hold their hands and tell them to stop with the hitting. Don’t attempt to explain in long and winded words why this is wrong. They are likely not to listen when they are in this state. A simple “no” or “don’t” would do.

Remove your child from the situation and help him calm down. Once he is relaxed you can put him back with his p playmates, carefully watching over him. When you see that he is starting to get frustrated again, assist him with the right words to use to help him manage this. If he’s angry at another playmate for not sharing with him, teach him to say, “May I borrow please?” instead of just grabbing the item.

Never berate your child in public or hit them back yourself. There is a reason why they are expressing themselves in this manner, and you, as their parent, have to get to the bottom of this. Getting angry at their behavior only compounds their reason to hit kids more. Help them cope and eventually they will learn to stop using their hands to vent, but instead manage their anger properly.

One of my dearest girlfriends’ babies have learned to crawl and we’ve been helping her with baby proofing her house. This is a safety requirement that must be put in all houses with very curious babies and toddlers, to avoid accidents. You don’t want to find your baby with a bump in her head, or a cut in her arms, or worse, suffocating or falling down something hurting her seriously.

Here are the things you need to take note of when it comes to baby proofing:

1. Survey the house for lower cabinets and drawers that babies may reach and try to pry open. These need child locks so that they won’t be able to open this and get their hands or themselves caught on the door or drawer.

2. Toddlers can already reach oven or stove knobs. When they see Mommy doing this, they wanna try and do the same thing and sometimes do this when Mom isn’t looking. Buy stove cover knobs to prevent any untoward incident like fire burning down the property or your child.

3. A toilet lid lock was one of the first baby proofing product I got for our house. And this is also great with keeping dogs from drinking onto the bowl, which is unsanitary.

4. Of all the baby proofing products to get, a corner guard one is a real life saver. Corner guards are those things you place on the edge of coffe tables. They tend to be sharp and can really hurt the baby. Adults can benefit from this too. I noticed that I bruise less with corner guards around.
