Screen shot 2011-04-11 at 2.30.31 PMWomen by nature are very competitive. Among themselves, there’s great camaraderie but there’s also damning competition, hence the term Mean Girls is so apt to describe.

But it seems as though this situation has risen to alarming levels. You can witness it in many social networking sites. The catfight has moved on from actual catfights to cyber catfights. What seems to have changed this or have made it worse? Especially with younger women.

Is it because of what our young girls are exposed to in the media? We see so many programs that seem to condone the diva mentality with kids as young as two year old, vying for beauty titles and crowns. We see it in countless of gossip sites and lifestyle sites. We see it on programs like Jersey Shore or Real Housewives. We see it in many forum. Bullying among women is rampant.

It has become alarming because the young kids have easy access to all of these. Not every parent can be there to monitor their kids and picking up on this culture can be so damaging.

How do you, as parents, make sure that your girls are guided by what they see or witness? How do you tell them that such a behavior can be appalling and that it is wrong to pick on other people?

Jewellery for kids are considered acceptable gifts, whether is precious jewellery or trendy accessories. These are great to give out during birthdays, graduations and Christmas. There are, however, a few considerations when planning on gifting jewellery to children.

One of it is to consider how age appropriate the jewellery is. For really younger kids who may still have the tendency to put everything in their mouths, charm bracelets, beaded accessories, or necklaces with lockets are instantly a no-no. There are, however, some baubles and bracelets that should look good and safe on toddlers and smaller children. Kids between the ages of 7-10 may enjoy something very colorful or have the trademark of their favorite characters. Older children may like something really trendy and hip, such as a fashionable childrens necklace made of cool materials, with fancy styles and bright, girly colors.

Take into account the materials used to create the jewellery. Some could be made of nickel and metal, as these are of low cost and, therefore, not much of a loss in case the kids become careless with it. But do consider if the material has lead in it, as this is potentially fatal to them. Kids may also have the tendency to get rashes and allergy from some accessories, so adults are supposed to take note of this. If there is a label, check for content first before buying. Or better yet ask the store about where the piece was made and what materials were used.

If you are giving children fine jewellery, teach them to be responsible for it and also advise them on how to take good care of something precious. Fine jewellery, in fact, must only be worn during special occasions, so do let the child know that this is the deal.

Gifting jewellery and accessories actually teaches these young girls to take care of their personal items better. It’s good training and at the same time a wonderful gift…because what girl doesn’t love jewellery?

One thing I love about winter fashion is the unveiling of some really cute, cool and trendy boots. At this time of the year, when it’s necessary to stay warm and comfortable, boots are the most practical footwear you can put on. What’s great about it is that come in different styles now. Women can basically choose a style that would allow them to look alluring, preppy or chic. They can wear them high cut or low cut, with or without heels. They can also wear them fashionably because of the many kinds of materials boots are made from these days.

As women’s style is so versatile when it comes to boots, those for younger girls, on the other hand, are not so far behind. In fact, some of the cutest girl boots you can find are made to fit right into what’s hip among young girls today — colorful, playful and artistic. Although, we do notice a good number of these girl boots are embellished in flowers, butterflies and lots of pink. We would like to think that this is because the designs are a celebration of what it means to young.

Many of these girl boots are also designed to be lightweight, which means walking with it everywhere offers a lot of convenience and you won’t hear the girls complaining. They can play or run around wearing these lovely boots, too.

With boots, kids can go out without having to put on socks and still remain warm and cozy. That’s because some boots do come with special lining and surfaces. Not only does it protect the fee from the winter cold, it also protects the feet from cuts and blisters.

If it weren’t so hot to wear during summer, we’re pretty sure young girls wouldn’t take off their boots then.
